Big News (RM500mil savings through Synergy Drive)

KUALA LUMPUR: Synergy Drive Bhd, which aims to list on Bursa Malaysia in November, expects savings of between RM400mil and RM500mil a year from its merger of plantations, properties and other businesses starting July 1, 2009.
The huge plantations-based company also has projected a pro forma operating profit of RM2.7bil and revenue of RM26bil, based on the results for the 2006 financial year.
On completion of the merger, Synergy Drive will be the world's largest listed palm oil company. It will account for 8% of global output, producing some 2.2 million tonnes of crude palm oil a year. And it will have total plantation land of 560,000ha in Malaysia and Indonesia.
The plantation business is set to contribute some 41.5% to operating profits.
